Disney Reportedly Plans Several Thousand Layoffs
Disney is planning to cut several thousand jobs, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke to CNBC. Bloomberg was first to report it. Some managers have reportedly been asked to reduce costs by up to 20%.
This would be the latest round since Josh D'Amaro became CEO earlier this year. Disney cut as many as 1,000 jobs in April, mostly in marketing, and about 300 in September, many in human resources and technology. In an August 5 shareholder letter, D'Amaro and CFO Hugh Johnston said they were "highly focused on reducing costs across the enterprise" and "mid-stream" in that work.
Disney also introduced plans for an early retirement program in August, and its chief people officer told employees that involuntary reductions "will continue into next year." Netflix said last month it would lay off roughly 6% of its workforce, and Disney reports fiscal fourth-quarter earnings November 17. Yahoo's layoffs tracker notes the Disney cuts haven't been confirmed yet, so the numbers are still a report.

Canva Cuts or Relocates 22% of Its Workforce
Canva is cutting or relocating more than 1,200 jobs, about 22% of its global workforce, according to the Guardian. The company says the restructure affects 1,271 people. CEO Melanie Perkins called it "without doubt the hardest moment in our thirteen-year history" in an email to staff on Wednesday.
Perkins didn't say how many of those are job losses versus relocations, since some staff are being asked to move to centralized hubs. The company says it is focused on "collapsing layers" and bringing "more teams together in person." People who leave get at least six months of salary, 12 more months of healthcare coverage where that benefit applies, and a $10,000 grant to start their own ventures, and they keep their laptops.
Canva joins a run of software restructures that includes 1,600 job cuts at Atlassian and job losses at Block and WiseTech Global. Those three mentioned AI in their announcements. Canva didn't, and it has long been touted as a candidate for a blockbuster Nasdaq listing.

Squarespace Lays Off 19% of Its Employees
Squarespace is laying off about 19% of its workforce, roughly 300 people, according to TechCrunch. The Verge first reported the cuts, and a Squarespace spokesperson confirmed them to TechCrunch. The company says it is "restructuring its organization and reducing its global workforce by approximately 19%."
The stated goal is to "simplify how we operate, sharpen our priorities" and move faster. TechCrunch adds that vibe-coding builders, which generate sites from simple prompts, have upended website building. Wix bought Base44 for $80 million in 2025, Lovable raised $400 million at a $13.3 billion valuation in August, and Google launched Stitch.
Squarespace launched its Blueprint AI tool in 2024 and has announced Forma, an upcoming AI-native platform with a waitlist. It went public in 2021 at a $10 billion valuation and went private in 2024 through a $7 billion private equity deal. Per Yahoo's tracker, Wix cut about 20% of its staff in May and Webflow had layoffs that month too, so site builders are having a rough year.
